Have you ever caught yourself scrolling through Pinterest to save pins for your picture-perfect home? Well I have. And lately while quarantining in a stuffy small apartment, I have found myself thinking about how I would want to design and furnish my future residence.
Feel free to follow along as I paint a picture and take you on a tour of my humble abode. Watch out, interior designer coming through!
The Type of Home
I would love to have a bright and airy modern farmhouse. The exterior and interior would have a white finish. This would make the place feel spacious and clean, yet classic and rustic, all at the same time.
Outside the Home
I would want a bigger back yard where I could hang vintage lights and watch movies on a projector screen underneath a covered patio. I could also set-up a boho teepee with cushions, and/or guests could choose to watch a movie from one of the chairs set around a heated fire pit. Next to the fire pit, I would have a bar cart and a s’mores station. Needless to say, the backyard would be my personal escape and place where I could hang with my farm of corgis.
Inside the Home
Still, it is important to have a cozy pad! And according to Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, the home satisfies one’s basic need for shelter; fulfilling both psychological and safety requirements. The inside of the home would include the living room, bedroom(s), bathroom(s), kitchen, and extras (rooms I would want) like a sun room/balcony, laundry room, and library/office space.
Living Room: The living room would connect to the front door hallway entrance. At the entrance, you would find a welcome sign/mat and hooks for bags/coats. Upon entering the living room, you would find a couch, rug and coffee table, tv/tv stand, fireplace, tear drop chair, and artwork. It would have a minimalist, boho chic, feel to it. This would create a sophisticated, yet simplistic, impression upon those who enter. Bedroom(s): The bedroom is where you sleep and have sex, so obviously it’s an essential room, am I right? The bedroom would house a king bed (big enough for my man, pup, and future kids), ceiling fan, dresser, pictures, and of course, walk-in closet with vanity. I would want the bedroom to have an airy/farmhouse/beachy/boho vibe to it. Simple yet eloquent. Through the bedroom and walk-in closet, one could then enter the master bathroom. In a separate part of the house, we would have a guest (or future kids) bedroom. Bathroom(s): The master bathroom would be white with gold (or black) trimming. I would like a separate tub (for drinking wine and reading) and shower. If possible, it would also be nice to have his and hers sinks so both partners can get ready in the morning simultaneously. It would also be nice to have another bathroom (at least powder room) in the home for guests to use. Kitchen: I would love an open and airy french modern farmhouse kitchen. The island or bar could have more rustic accents to it, but I would want white cabinets, a pantry, and enough space to freely move around and cook (in my case bake)! Sun Room/Balcony: Above the sunroom, I would have a balcony. The balcony would comprise a small table and a couple chairs for perhaps morning coffee (or chai tea). The sun room would essentially be the dining room. I would want to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner in there. I would also want to host tea parties (complete with english tea, pastries, small sandwiches, and scones and clotted cream) and other gatherings. The sun room would have a chandelier above the table and there would be greenery surrounding the area. Laundry Room: The laundry room would be simple- again, more of a modern farmhouse style. It would come complete with a washer and dryer. No more paying for community laundry facilities, yay!!! Library/Office Space: Finally, I want a home office space and book nook next to the window. The home office space would be bright and surrounded by bookshelves/books. In the corner of the room, the book nook would extend out and allow natural light to seep through the window. Fundamentally, the space would be quiet and cozy. Gosh I really wish I had this now with the current stay at home order.
The Final Product
All this written text sounds nice huh? But if you are anything like me, a visual image really helps the reader understand and grasp the writer’s concept. So please enjoy this collage I put together, curtesy of Pinterest:
I’d love to hear from you! How would you design your château? Time to put that dream cap on and start building!
