A few weekends ago I visited Colorado with my two high school best friends. Ali had just gotten engaged, so of course we all needed to be together to celebrate! Ali currently lives just outside Denver, Colorado, while Sarah is in Tahoe and I reside in Santa Barbara. So it was nice that we could all be together for a weekend again.
We did a good amount in three jam-packed days (especially with things being shut down due to COVID). That said, I will give you a breakdown of our activities in Denver and Boulder, CO.
- Denver, Colorado is the capital of Colorado. Denver is the epicenter for Old West architecture, but is also known for its modern bars/tap rooms, murals, shopping and arts district, and parks and recreation. In fact, we spent a majority of our time in Denver. The first day we were there, we went to Blue Moon Brewing Company and ordered a flight of beers. I got the lemon drop, key lime, iced coffee, and prickly pear flight. We also went to Frolic Brewing Company, a nice rooftop bar, and The Doughnut Club, where I bought a cookie monster donut. “Om nom nom nom.” Of course, we also strolled around the Art District a bit and stumbled upon cute boutique stores like Meraki Moon, and drove around Larimer Square, the city’s oldest and most historic block. I even got to see Union Station and Coors Field. One of the other days we spent in the Denver area, we ate at Bacon Social House, and you best believe I dived deep into that flight of bacon and boozy fresh toast. We also visited the Red Rocks Amphitheater, took a drive around northern Colorado, and sipped on a flight of ciders and enjoyed a nice charcuterie board (my fav) at Stem Ciders.
- Boulder, Colorado is located in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Northern Colorado. It is just a short drive away from Denver, so it made for a perfect day excursion. We began our morning with a hike at The Flatirons, which are composed of rock formations that overlook the city of Boulder. It was a moderate to hard hike with a small rock climbing area at one section (believe me, I am no rock climber, but I got past that mental hurdle so I could experience some pretty amazing views at the top). Once we finished the hike, we went to DT Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall, where I rewarded myself with a fried chicken sandwich and beer from Next Door American Eatery. It was to die for! Of course, we also did some window shopping at the art galleries and boutiques. Finally, we finished up the day just driving around and seeing the University of Colorado, Boulder (what a beautiful campus)!
We had so much fun these three full days but also made sure to enjoy the downtime as well! I recommend a full send to sky high Colorado folks!
