2020 are you a year of fun, opportunity, change, hardships, lessons, etc.? Or are you all of these things?
My First Blog Post
To those reading this, welcome to my very first blog post! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the beginning of March and I am just now getting around to writing. SMH. Not to make excuses, but it has been a busy start to the year – I got promoted to Senior Undergraduate Advisor in my department at UC Santa Barbara and moved into a new apartment with my boyfriend. Not complaining, life has been good! However, I made it a new years resolution/mission that I would start my blog and get to writing pronto. And here I am February 29 typing out these first words…. But what can ya do? Time only moves forward and if you aren’t moving with it, then you’re stuck, frozen and reminiscing on the past or what could have been. So instead of being mad at myself for starting my blog this late in the game, I thought why not be compassionate, encouraging and proud for getting over this hump and doing the damn thing!
What’s in Store for 2020?
This brings me to the topic of my first blog post- what the heck am I looking forward to in 2020? Well for starters, I just booked my trip to the Mighty 5 in September. If you aren’t familiar with the Mighty 5, this includes some of the most picturesque and iconic national parks in the country, all nestled in Southern Utah. I will be visiting Zion, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef, Canyonlands and Arches National Parks, with a quick pit stop in Vegas and Salt Lake City. Be sure to look up pictures on pinterest and google. You will not be disappointed! That said, one typically expects camping will be involved in a national parks trip. Full disclosure, I am typically a happy camper, but truly appreciate the ability to shower and use a toilet (I know, some would argue that isn’t really camping). Soooo lucky for me, my friends and I found several lodging sites that will accommodate my boujee requests/lifestyle and if I am being honest, I am really looking forward to star gazing under a teepee or conestoga wagon, enjoying the cuisine at the local bed and breakfast, and getting cozy in our cabin. While I am on the topic of travel, I am excited to start planning my girls trips to Tulum, Mexico and Greece 2021! I am also expecting a trip to Hawaii either next year or the year after to celebrate my friend’s wedding. Of course, one can only plan so much. I’m sure some quick weekend getaways and last minute trips will make their way into the books.
Living in the Moment
For the time being, I am enjoying my growth as an Advisor while I continue to set- out/accomplish my personal and professional goals. I’ve loved the time I have been able to spend with my boyfriend Evan since he’s moved down, and I have hopes we will take the next step in our relationship by adopting a corgi at the end of the year. Finally, it has been a breath of fresh air not to have school work anymore. I have spent more time opting outside in beautiful Santa Barbara, talking/hanging with friends and reading for pleasure. I mean, I’m already on the fourth book of Harry Potter (don’t worry, I am re-reading the series).
Well it’s about time for date night… Evan is taking me to get ramen (one of my favs). Stay tuned for future blog/vlog posts. And a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to read this segment. What are you looking forward to in 2020?

A bit about me... Born and raised in South Lake Tahoe, I always dreamed about what laid beyond my backyard. Sure, the smell of pine trees and sight of freshly fallen snow was always magical, but I yearned for more. So, after high school, I packed up my bags, left the mittens behind, and moved to sunny Santa Barbara for college. After graduation, I moved to San Francisco for a year, then to Malibu/Los Angeles to complete my Master's degree at Pepperdine. But now I'm back beaches! I am working as an Undergraduate Advisor at UC Santa Barbara. And as the saying goes- suns out, buns out, and holy quesadilla there are flying tortillas everywhere (something like that). So, you are probably wondering what the heck is this blog about?! Well let me tell ya... I'm still trying to figure that out myself haha. But, it is 2020 ... and it's about time I stopped talking about creating a blog and just did the damn thing. I thought writing about travel would be fun (and I am definitely going to do this, but in a realistic way, because lets face it, I am not showering in money). But I also thought it might be cool to just do a lifestyle blog and talk about whatever pops into my mind. Don't get me wrong, I am that basic chai tea, country music lovin', curl up and read a book, white girl. But I also have so many more passions/thoughts beyond this surface-level stuff. So get ready, grab your coffee (or wine), and check out my posts! Enjoy, Amanda
